What can I say? Nothing.

I’m in shock. I never thought this could actually happen. I write this blog to get in the habit of having something say, but I have nothing to say that can make this better.

Sometimes I don’t know what to say because I’m white and male: there are times anything I could say would just be reinforcing my privilege. So I remind myself that instead of speaking, I can listen. I can listen to women when they tell me what it’s like to be objectified. I can listen to people of color when they tell me police violence is a real problem. I can listen to expats, Muslims, and members of the LGBTQ community who tell me America is becoming too scary to live in. And I can listen to farmers, miners, and factory workers who say their way of life is disappearing and no one seems to care.

I’m listening.
